Privacy Commitment

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: October 2026 • Version 1.0

1. Fundamental Philosophy: Privacy by Architecture

Personal Dictionary is built upon a simple foundation: your vocabulary, notes, and searches belong exclusively to you.We do not believe in monetizing user attention, tracking behavior, or collecting personal analytics.

2. Data Storage & Local Persistence

All words, categories, favorites, definitions, and Apple Intelligence notes are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your Mac, is not uploaded to our servers, and remains in your local sandbox.

3. On-Device Apple Intelligence

AI insights (Simple Explanation, Memorable Sentence, Memory Trick, and Usage Tip) are processed locally on your Mac's Apple Silicon Neural Engine via the native Foundation Models framework. Prompts and definitions are never transmitted over the internet or logged to any cloud AI provider.

4. Network Requests & Third-Party APIs

Personal Dictionary only makes outbound network connections when you explicitly look up a word that requires online data:

  • Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev): Queried anonymously when a word cannot be found in the macOS offline system dictionary.
  • Datamuse API (api.datamuse.com): Queried anonymously to retrieve synonym and antonym suggestions.
  • Pronunciation Audio Playback: When clicking to listen to pronunciation, audio is streamed directly from public CDN audio endpoints provided by the dictionary API.

No IP addresses, advertising identifiers, or account identifiers are attached to these lookup queries.

5. Zero Analytics & Zero Tracking

Neither the macOS application nor this website uses Google Analytics, tracking pixels, cookies, or telemetry frameworks. We do not know who you are, how many words you search, or when you use the app.

6. Open Source Verification

Because Personal Dictionary is 100% open source under the MIT License, anyone can audit the Swift and Astro code directly onGitHub.
